What is PCS Full Form and what is PCS?

PCS Stands for " Provincial Civil Service " and PCS are called " प्रांतीय सिविल सेवा " in Hindi. The provincial civil service deals with subjects like land revenue, agriculture, forests, education etc. Officers are recruited by various states through the State's Public Service Commission (PSC).

Eligibility for PCS

If you are preparing for PCS or are thinking of doing -

  • You must be a citizen of India.
  • You must be at least 21 years of age and maximum 40 years.
  • You must have a Graduation degree from any recognized university.
  • Reservated candidates are released from their age as per rules.

PCS Exam Pattern

The PCS examination is completed in three stages-


There are two exams in this. The first paper has a total of 150 questions and it is a total of 200 marks and its duration is 2 hours. There are a total of 100 questions in the second paper and it is of total 200 marks, that is, each question is of 2 marks and its duration is 2 hours.


There are a total of 8 papers out of which 4 are compulsory and 4 are optional subjects. Whatever follows

  • Compulsory subject
    • General Studies Paper 1- 200 Marks, 2 Hours
    • General Studies Paper 2 - 200 Marks, 2 Hours
    • General Hindi - 150 Marks, 3 Hours
    • Essay - 150 Marks, 3 Hours
  • Optional subjects - You have to take any two subjects from the following and there are two papers in each of the selected subjects, each paper is of 150 marks.

The total mark of the interview is 200. Your interest can be asked about the academic background. Often general awareness, intelligence, eloquence, character, expressive power / personality are checked.
